I have just been told that Campus organizers from the FMF will be on the ELAC campus soon, I will post the date later, mobilizing students around feminist issues and helping students launch a new feminist student group. Anyone interested please keep an eye out for more information, the specifics will be posted soon. I know that many of you have been asking about the meetings and such, but like I posted before, for reasons that were out our hands, the first go at this group was not successful. However, this second chance for the group will be successful if you show your interest and become part of something great. If you want to personally get in contact with the FMF, contact Teresa De Anda, who's information is posted below.

70 Years of American Style Icons

Glamour Magazine has done some recreations of recognizable style icons. Normally, fashion and strong women do not necessarily go hand in hand. When one thinks of fashion magazines, they picture the stick thin young girls plastered all over those magazine covers. But this caught my attention because we get to see both strong and stylish females that have left a mark on the world, not only fashion.
The famous icons have been portrayed by some of today's young Hollywood crowd.

"You can do anything! That’s the message of the seven decades of female risk takers, rule breakers and style makers here. We celebrate them with the help of some very-2009 young talents."

Alexis Bledel as Rosie the Riveter.

Alicia Keys as First Lady Michelle Obama.

America Ferrera as Dolores Huerta.

There was more, the women of Woodstock, Madonna, Audrey Hepburn... but these three women stood out. Rosie the Riveter has become the image for feminism all around. Dolores Huerta overcame that "double bind" that women during that time faced & is personally the kind of Chicana that I look up to. Plus I got to meet her and she is the nicest lady ever. And no list can be complete without Michelle Obama, who is becoming a symbol for strong women as we speak.

I sincerely apologize for the lack of action lately.
I have no idea what is going on with the group, and I know many of you guys have been sending messages to our myspace pg asking about the meetings.
I really hope we get some news soon, as I am just like you guys not knowing what is going on.
The minute I find out what is going on, I will let all of you know.

President Elect? Duh!

because I recall everyone and their mother talking about it. We elected our first Black President. We allowed teen girls to be safe. We even gave chickens more space. But we couldn't give Gays and Lesbians the right to be happy?
This topic is extensive, and controversial for some reason. Look, I see it this way:
I am straight, with no desire to get married, but IF I wanted to do so, nobody is telling me that I cannot be happy. Now why are people insisting on telling people they cannot be happy? I said people. Humans. Why are we dehuminizing people like you and I?
I am sorry that I do not see the "controversy" in this.
PEOPLE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE HAPPY!
Period. What is so controversial about that?
Like I told my mother and father(hardcore Catholics, really old fashioned people), the wedding is not going to cost you, you are not sleeping in the same bed as them, they are probably never going to talk to you about it, so why not let them be if they aren't butting into your life?

I have a lot more to say on this topic, but I feel that if I continue, I will let my extensive use of curse words get the better of me and end up mad. So all that is left to say is:

Hello, its been a while since I have posted, so anywho, I got an email a bit ago from the Feminist Majority Foundation with a link to the PSA on Prop 4 they made. It is now on Youtube.
